Planning a move requires thorough organization and leaving nothing to chance. Any detail or oversight can be fatal to the smooth running of the move.
Before selecting a moving company
- Find a new school for the children
- Find out about the regulations for importing pets and vehicles in the new destination country
- Have a planned place of residence in the destination country until your belongings arrive
6-8 WEEKS BEFORE THE MOVE
- Review your belongings and decide which ones you will move and which ones you will not
- Ask Grupo Amygo for a quote
- Prepare the travel plan, plane tickets, hotel reservations, maps of the destination country and city, etc.
- Reserve a date with Grupo AMYGO
- Collect all your belongings family and personal documents (passports, medical insurance, dental insurance, birth certificates, baptismal certificates, family book, marriage certificate, insurance policies, etc.)
- Arrange what is necessary for your pet’s trip
- Inform your usual home service providers of the date on which you want to stop receiving them or cancel them: Newspaper and magazine subscriptions, water, electricity/gas, telephone, internet, garbage collection, gardening maintenance service, swimming pools. Inform family, friends, credit card companies, insurance companies about your residence change.
Planning 2/3 weeks before the move
- Ask your doctor to prescribe your medical treatments in writing (medical reports in case they are requested at customs to import your medicines and those of your family members).
- Unsubscribe from clubs, gyms.
- Think about the best place to put pets on moving day.
1 WEEK BEFORE THE MOVE
- Defrost the freezer and refrigerator.
- Eat up perishable foods.
- Arrange childcare for moving day.
- Transfer funds from your checking accounts to new bank accounts in your new destination country.
- Drain diesel and oil from equipment you are moving (such as lawnmowers, motorcycles, compressors).
- Identify the belongings you want to send by air and the essential items you will need as soon as you arrive at your destination destination.
- Close the safe deposit boxes. Jewelry items must be carried with you.
- Collect important travel documents and your passports, which must travel with you.
- Flammable products and explosives cannot be transported by moving companies (solvents, paints, gas cylinders, etc.) keep this in mind.
- Prepare your suitcases.
- Leave on hand what is necessary for the last day before the move (clothes, hygiene products, medicines, etc…) that will not be transported by the moving company.
On the day of the move
- You must be available on the day of the move to check and supervise the inventory of your move.
- Remember to keep a copy of the inventory and delivery note.
- Make a final visual check of all the rooms in the house.
In transit
- Confirm the contact information you provided to Grupo Amygo (mobile phone, email address, etc.).
- Notify your moving company of the date of your arrival in the destination country and the address of your new home.
